The iPhone 16, Apple’s upcoming flagship smartphone series, is set to launch later this year. Despite speculation about potential delays, the iPhone 16’s debut remains on track for September. The series is expected to introduce several exciting features, including the highly anticipated Apple Intelligence—a suite of artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities for Apple devices.
Recent reports have suggested that while some Apple Intelligence features are already available in beta, they may not be ready for the iPhone 16 at its initial launch. This has led to concerns that the release of the new iPhone series could be delayed. However, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, these concerns are unfounded. Gurman, in his Power On newsletter, reassured that the iPhone 16 series will not face a postponement and will adhere to its expected September launch schedule.
Historically, Apple has consistently launched new iPhone models alongside the latest operating system updates in September. Although there have been instances where launches were delayed due to the need for additional software refinement—such as the iPhone 4S’s shift from June to October in 2011—this is not anticipated for the iPhone 16 series.
Gurman also indicated that while the iOS 18 update will accompany the iPhone 16 launch, Apple Intelligence features might not be fully integrated into the iOS 18 release. Instead, these features could be introduced with the iOS 18.1 update, potentially arriving in October. Some of the standout features showcased at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2024, such as the Image Playground for generating AI images, may be postponed until later updates.
There is also speculation that certain advanced AI functionalities, particularly enhancements to Siri, might be delayed until 2025. These features could first be available to developers in January 2025 with the iOS 18.4 beta update before becoming publicly accessible later in the year.
