Actor Shine Tom Chacko may face a ban from the Malayalam film industry following his arrest in a drug-related case, as the Kerala Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) gears up for a crucial monitoring committee meeting scheduled for Monday at 3 pm. The committee, tasked with reviewing concerns related to drug abuse in the film sector, is expected to recommend strict actions to curb narcotics usage on and around movie sets.
The move comes amid growing unease in the industry, with earlier pleas from the producers’ association for regular inspections and the presence of law enforcement at shooting locations going largely unheeded. Despite previous reports pointing to the circulation of drugs on film sets, meaningful investigations or follow-up actions remain lacking.
The committee will also address a separate complaint lodged by actress Vincy Aloysius, who accused Shine Tom of inappropriate behavior during a shoot in Ponnani. The High Court and Women’s Commission had earlier instructed the formation of this 21-member committee, which includes representatives from AMMA, FEFKA, and other industry bodies.
According to Shine’s own police statement, drug usage is rampant within the industry, implicating not just actors but also technicians and supporting crew members—some of whom may be directly involved in distribution networks. The Film Chamber is under pressure to take decisive action to restore credibility and safety within Malayalam cinema.
