The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for Kerala, predicting widespread and heavy rainfall across the state from August 15 to 19. The forecast includes thunderstorms and strong winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 km/h. A cyclonic circulation over the South East Arabian Sea and South Kerala coast, combined with a low-pressure area extending up to 1.5 km height from Konkan, is expected to drive these severe weather conditions.
The IMD has placed Kozhikode and Wayanad districts under an orange alert, while other districts are under a yellow alert. Fishermen are advised to avoid venturing into the sea due to the dangerous conditions. The IMD has also highlighted that isolated locations in Idukki may experience moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning. While some areas like Thiruvananthapuram might see light rainfall, other regions, including Kollam, Pathanamthitta, and Alappuzha, are likely to receive moderate rainfall. Residents are urged to exercise caution during this period.
