New Delhi: Reliance Industries has announced plans to make a significant Rs 65,000 crore investment in Andhra Pradesh’s clean energy sector, with an ambitious project to set up 500 compressed biogas (CBG) plants. This initiative, led by Anant Ambani, marks Reliance’s largest venture outside its home state of Gujarat and is expected to play a transformative role in advancing the renewable energy landscape in Andhra Pradesh. The project is anticipated to generate 2.5 lakh job opportunities, highlighting Reliance’s focus on both environmental sustainability and economic development.
Each CBG plant, which will be constructed on designated wasteland areas, will require an investment of approximately Rs 130 crore, according to reports by the Economic Times. In support of this venture, Anant Ambani recently met with Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh in Mumbai, where they finalized the details of the initiative. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Reliance Industries and the Andhra Pradesh Industries Department is expected to be signed in Vijayawada in the presence of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.
In alignment with its clean energy goals, the Andhra Pradesh government has introduced an array of incentives for biofuel projects, including a 20% subsidy on the fixed capital cost of CBG plants and a full reimbursement of SGST and electricity duty for five years. These incentives are designed to attract investors, foster clean energy growth, and boost employment in the state. So far, Reliance Industries has not released an official statement on the project.
