Thiruvananthapuram: Thiruvananthapuram is set to witness a grand celebration of art and culture as the 63rd Kerala School Kalolsavam commences on Saturday. Known as the State School Arts Festival, this iconic event will see over 11,000 students showcase their talents in 240 diverse competitions held across 25 venues in the city.
The festival, spanning five days, will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at the MT-Nila venue in Central Stadium at 10 a.m. Competitions will follow the inaugural ceremony, starting at 11 a.m. To facilitate participants, the Department of General Education has established help desks at key transit points, such as Thiruvananthapuram Central Railway Station and the KSRTC Bus Stand, to guide teams to their registration and accommodation.
Highlighting inclusivity, this year’s Kalolsavam features tribal art forms for the first time, enriching the festival’s repertoire. The updated event manual reflects these changes, ensuring a holistic representation of Kerala’s cultural legacy. All students achieving an A grade will receive a trophy and a cultural scholarship of ₹1,000.
Education Minister V Sivankutty emphasized the festival’s role in fostering artistic growth over competition. He called for an environment where children can showcase their talents without fear, underlining that the Kalolsavam celebrates creativity and cultural unity. With thousands of participants, organizers, and spectators expected, the event is poised to reinforce Kerala’s reputation as a hub of tradition and artistic excellence.
