Hundreds of toddlers in Kerala took baby steps towards the world of learning on Vijayadashami Day (Vidyarambham) on Thursday, October 2, 2025. Celebrities, writers, intellectuals, politicians, and elderly personages from varied walks of life initiated children into the world of letters at temples, cultural institutions and newspaper offices in the State.
Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar guided children through writing their first words – ‘Hari Sree’ – on platters filled with rice grains at Raj Bhavan, as their parents watched. In a Facebook post, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said Kerala’s learning and skill development are the foundations of the State’s progress.
On this auspicious day of #Vidyarambham, as many children step into the world of knowledge, let’s commit to creating an even better learning environment for future generations. The LDF government’s efforts in education are guided by this vision. Let’s build a Nava Keralam. He mentioned that the interventions by the Left Democratic Front (LDF) have enhanced the education sector in Kerala. He welcomed children embarking on their educational journey on Vijayadashami. He extended his best wishes to them and their families.
Leader of the Opposition V. D. Satheesan held the Vidyarambham ceremony at his house in his constituency in Paravoor, Ernakulam. Union Minister Suresh Gopi led the Vidyarambham ceremony at Arappura Easwari Amman Saraswati Temple at Vattiyurkavu in Thiruvananthapuram. LDF Ministers participated in Vidyarambham ceremonies at different parts of the State. The ceremony also symbolises the introduction of the children into the world of speech and hearing by gently scribbling ‘Hari Sree’ on their tongues and whispering the words into their ears.
The Thunchan Parambu at Tirur, Asan Smarakam at Thonnakkal in Thiruvananthapuram, the Saraswathi Mandapam at Poojappura grounds in Thiruvananthapuram, the Dakshina Mookambika Temple in Paravoor in Ernakulam, the Panachikkadu Temple in Kottayam, the Chottanikara Temple in Ernakulam, the Saraswathi Temple at Shangumugham in Thiruvananthapuram and the Thiruvallakavu temple in Cherpu in Thrissur were the main hubs of the day’s festivities. Vijayadashami marks the culmination of the Navarathri festival season.
