In a move that mirrors a similar decision by Indigo Airlines, Air India has now suspended flight services from six major airports in India. These include airports located in sensitive and high-alert regions such as Jammu, Amritsar, Leh, Jodhpur, Srinagar, and Chandigarh. The announcement was made through an official statement issued early this morning via Air India’s official communication channels.
The airline cited passenger safety as the key reason for the temporary suspension of operations. “We are closely monitoring the evolving situation and will resume services when conditions are deemed safe,” the airline clarified in its release.
This decision comes in the wake of heightened security measures following recent tensions between India and Pakistan. Earlier, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) had announced the closure of multiple airports near the border to prevent any potential security threats. Airports in cities such as Srinagar, Jammu, Ludhiana, and Pathankot had been shut down temporarily during the conflict as a precautionary step.
Just a day before this announcement, authorities had issued clearance to reopen air operations at these affected airports, and directives were given to resume international air routes as well. However, Air India and other carriers are taking a cautious approach by prioritizing the safety and security of passengers over operational urgency. The situation remains under observation as aviation and defense agencies continue to assess the threat levels.
