As Jharkhand gears up for a crucial election, BJP’s Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has made an emotional appeal to voters, vowing to protect the state’s “Roti, Beti, and Maati” under BJP leadership. Speaking at a campaign rally, Chouhan promised that if elected, the BJP would safeguard these fundamental aspects of life in Jharkhand—referring to food security (roti) in the face of unemployment, women’s safety (beti) amid concerns of ‘love jihad’ and rising atrocities, and land protection (maati) against the influx of illegal infiltrators, which he termed as ‘land jihad.’
This rhetoric taps into the sentiments of the tribal community, which has faced challenges under the current Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) rule, including concerns about land rights and illegal encroachment. BJP has reportedly received an organic and positive response from the electorate, especially women, who feel a connection to the party’s promise to protect their interests.
With Jharkhand’s 81-member Legislative Assembly elections scheduled between November and December, the political landscape is heating up, with the BJP positioned as a strong contender against the ruling JMM-Congress alliance. Early trends indicate that the BJP may have an upper hand, drawing significant support from traditional voters who are looking for change, especially with a focus on employment, security, and land protection.
