Indian Railways has announced a crucial update to its ticket booking system, impacting the advance reservation process for passengers. Starting from November 1, 2024, the Advance Reservation Period (ARP) will be reduced to 60 days, down from the current 120-day window. This new rule is set to streamline the ticket booking process and make it more convenient for passengers planning shorter-term travel.
Key highlights of the new rule include:
Effective Date: The changes will take effect on November 1, 2024. Passengers can now book train tickets up to 60 days prior to the train’s scheduled departure, excluding the day of travel. This will cut the existing 120-day advance booking window in half.
Current Bookings: Any reservations made before October 31, 2024, under the previous 120-day rule, will remain valid, with no impact on existing bookings.
Cancellations Allowed: Passengers who have booked tickets beyond the new 60-day ARP can cancel their bookings, ensuring flexibility in travel plans.
No Change for Daytime Express Trains: For certain express trains like the Taj Express and Gomti Express, where shorter reservation periods already exist, there will be no modifications to the ARP.
Foreign Tourists: The 365-day advance booking period for foreign tourists will continue unchanged, allowing ample time for international travelers to plan their journeys.
This new policy aims to enhance efficiency and provide a smoother booking experience for passengers while encouraging better resource management for Indian Railways. Passengers are advised to check the updated guidelines on the IRCTC platform when planning their future journeys.
