In a serious national security breach, a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Assistant Sub-Inspector, Moti Ram Jat, has been arrested on charges of spying for Pakistan. Authorities have confirmed that he leaked highly sensitive information to enemy agents in exchange for a mere ₹3,500 per month, with occasional additional payments of up to ₹12,000 for classified documents.
The leaked intelligence reportedly included details about terrorist locations, troop deployments, and the number of officers stationed in specific areas. Investigations revealed that Pakistani operatives, pretending to be journalists from Chandigarh, initially contacted Jat. A woman posing as a media professional established the first point of contact, followed by another person claiming to be from the same organization. These agents manipulated Jat into sharing crucial military and strategic information via WhatsApp.
Before the recent Pahalgam terrorist attack, Jat had been stationed in CRPF’s 16th Battalion located near Baisaran Valley, one of the regions close to the attack site. Just five days prior to the incident, he was transferred to Delhi. Even after his transfer, he continued to share updates — including news about the closure of 50 tourist spots and the Union Home Minister’s visit.
The arrest was made last week, and agencies including the National Investigation Agency (NIA), central intelligence services, and CRPF are interrogating Jat to uncover the full extent of the espionage. The investigation is still underway, with officials working to trace any further leaks and assess the damage to national security.
