Gandhinagar: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an update on Cyclone “Asna,” which has been responsible for significant rainfall in Gujarat. Currently classified as a deep depression over the Arabian Sea, Cyclone Asna is expected to move west-northwest into the Northeast Arabian Sea, gradually drifting away from the Indian coast within the next 24 hours.
The cyclone is advancing at a speed of 14 km/h and is currently positioned at 23.6° N latitude and 66.4° E longitude. This places it approximately 250 km west of Naliya in Gujarat, 160 km south-southwest of Karachi, Pakistan, and 350 km east-southeast of Pasni, Pakistan.
IMD scientist Ramashray Yadav mentioned that light to moderate rainfall is anticipated in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. Over the past 24 hours, the Kachchh region has experienced heavy rainfall, contributing to the 882 mm of rain Gujarat has recorded since June 1—50% above the normal level for this period. Saurashtra and Kachchh regions have similarly received more than their average rainfall.
Earlier this week, warnings were issued for heavy rainfall in the districts of Jamnagar, Porbandar, Morbi, Dwarka, and Kutch. In Jamnagar, ongoing floods have led to the closure of the road connecting Padana Patiya and Changa Patiya. Additionally, a portion of a small bridge on Sir PN Road has been washed away, causing disruptions for commuters.
