Thiruvananthapuram: For the first time since stepping down as the president of the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA), actor Mohanlal is scheduled to address the media on Saturday afternoon in Thiruvananthapuram. This press conference marks his initial public statement following his resignation, which came in the wake of the release of the Hema Committee report and the subsequent sexual misconduct allegations against certain members of AMMA’s administrative committee.
Mohanlal has been under fire for his prolonged silence regarding the Hema Committee’s findings, which exposed the exploitation of actresses within the Malayalam film industry. The report suggested that actresses were allegedly coerced into compromising situations to gain or maintain membership in AMMA. This revelation has led to widespread criticism and demands for a complete overhaul of the organization’s leadership, with many advocating for stronger female representation in the decision-making bodies.
In response to the escalating controversy and public pressure, Mohanlal, along with the entire governing body of AMMA, resigned from their positions. The upcoming press conference, which will be held after the launch of the Kerala Cricket League, is expected to shed light on Mohanlal’s stance on the issues raised by the Hema Committee report and what lies ahead for AMMA.
