The death toll from the devastating building collapse in Lucknow’s Transport Nagar has risen to eight, as rescue teams pulled three more bodies from the rubble on Sunday. The tragic incident, which occurred on Saturday evening, injured 28 people, many of whom were workers on the ground floor of the three-storey building that housed godowns and a motor workshop.
State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams have been working around the clock, recovering the bodies of Raj Kishore (27), Rudra Yadav (24), and Jagrup Singh (35). Relief Commissioner G S Naveen confirmed that the rescue operation is still ongoing, with officials focusing on ensuring that no more individuals are trapped beneath the collapsed structure. The exact number of people who were present in the building at the time remains unclear, adding urgency to the search efforts.
The building, constructed approximately four years ago, was undergoing some form of construction work at the time of the collapse. The structure gave way at around 4:45 pm on Saturday, causing widespread panic. Rescue teams and medical personnel quickly responded, with the injured being transported to local hospitals, including Lok Bandhu Hospital.
Authorities are investigating the cause of the collapse, with initial reports suggesting possible structural flaws or negligence during ongoing construction activities. Meanwhile, rescue efforts continue, as teams sift through the debris in hopes of finding any survivors. The incident has raised questions about building safety regulations and enforcement in the area.
