The Economic Survey 2025, a vital pre-budget report providing a detailed analysis of India’s economic performance, will be presented in Parliament today by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. Prepared under the guidance of the Chief Economic Advisor, the survey serves as a key reference for policymakers and the public, outlining growth patterns, sectoral developments, and fiscal outlooks for the coming financial year.
The document will be tabled in the Lok Sabha at 12 PM, followed by its presentation in the Rajya Sabha at 2 PM. Released annually before the Union Budget, the Economic Survey helps in shaping budgetary expectations and highlighting areas of focus for economic reforms and policy decisions.
Economic Survey and Budget Session Timeline
The Budget Session of Parliament commences today and will continue until April 4, with a recess from February 14 to March 10. The survey’s theme typically reflects the government’s broader economic strategy, with the 2024 edition emphasizing economic resilience amid global uncertainties. The 2025 survey is expected to provide insights into key growth drivers, fiscal discipline, and policy reforms necessary for sustainable economic progress.
Historical Significance of the Economic Survey
The Economic Survey was first introduced in 1950-51 as part of the Union Budget but was later separated in the 1960s. Since then, it has been published annually, offering a comprehensive evaluation of the country’s economic health and influencing future policy decisions.
Ahead of the Union Budget 2025 presentation tomorrow, a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi will finalize key approvals. Additionally, President Droupadi Murmu will address a joint session of Parliament, formally inaugurating the Budget Session and setting the stage for discussions on India’s fiscal and economic roadmap.
