New Delhi: In a significant step towards enhancing passenger safety, the Indian Railways is set to install multiple cameras on all trains to monitor tracks and surrounding areas. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the initiative in response to recent incidents where authorities suspect attempts were made to derail trains. The cameras will be positioned at strategic locations, including the front, rear, and sides of the engine, as well as the guard coach. Additional cameras will be placed on cattle guards and bogies to provide comprehensive coverage of the train’s exterior.
Vaishnaw stated that a tender for the installation of these cameras will be floated within the next three months, ensuring that all trains will soon be equipped with this enhanced safety feature. To support the system, a common data center will be established where the video feeds from all the cameras will be stored for future reference.
The move comes in the wake of several alarming incidents involving suspected derailment attempts. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, the Railways is also engaging with police chiefs across various states to increase track vigilance. Additionally, efforts are being made to bolster the intelligence network and raise public awareness to prevent any further attempts to sabotage train operations, underscoring the administration’s commitment to railway safety.
