New Delhi: Dr. V Narayanan, a distinguished scientist from Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu, has been appointed as the new chairman of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). Currently serving as the Director of the Liquid Propulsion Systems Centre (LPSC), Dr. Narayanan will take over the leadership from S. Somnath, whose term concludes on January 14. In his response to the appointment, Dr. Narayanan expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Central Government for entrusting him with this responsibility.
Dr. Narayanan brings nearly four decades of expertise in the field of rocket and spacecraft propulsion. An alumnus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur, he holds a PhD in Aerospace Engineering and has received numerous accolades for his contributions to space technology. His achievements include a silver medal for securing the first rank in M.Tech at IIT Kharagpur and prestigious awards such as the Astronautical Society of India (ASI) Award for Rocket and Related Technologies.
He has also been recognized with the ISRO Outstanding Achievement Award, the Performance Excellence Award, and honorary distinctions such as the Doctorate of Science from Sathyabama University. Dr. Narayanan’s leadership marks a new chapter for ISRO, as he steps into the pivotal role of steering India’s ambitious space exploration and technological advancements.
