The ongoing strike by ASHA workers in front of the Secretariat has now reached its 48th day, with three individuals continuing their hunger strike for the 10th consecutive day. ASHA workers Beena Peter, Anithakumari, and Shailaja have remained steadfast in their protest, demanding that the government address their grievances.
Despite their prolonged demonstration, the Kerala ASHA Health Workers Association has expressed disappointment over the government’s inaction. With no official response or invitation for discussions from the authorities, the association has decided to escalate the protest in the coming days. On Monday, which marks the 50th day of the strike, ASHA workers plan to stage a symbolic protest by cutting their hair in front of the Secretariat as a sign of their growing frustration.
The striking workers also claim that the government is resorting to retaliatory measures by withholding their benefits for the month of February. They believe this is an attempt to suppress their movement and discourage further protests.
ASHA workers, who play a crucial role in the state’s healthcare system, have been demanding fair wages, better working conditions, and recognition of their services. As their strike intensifies, all eyes are now on the government’s response to their continued struggle.
