Today marks the 170th birth anniversary of Sree Narayana Guru, with celebrations planned globally. Due to the recent Wayanad disaster, the festivities will be more subdued, focusing on prayers at locations like Chempazhanthy Gurukulam, Sivagiri Mutt, and Aruvippuram. A peace procession will be conducted by Sree Narayana organizations, and a peace lamp (chathayadeepam) will be lit at Sivagiri in the evening as a prayer for those affected by the Wayanad disaster. Special prayers are scheduled at temples and Guru mandaps from 6:00 to 6:30 am.
The Guru Jayanthi Maha Sammelanam at Chempazhanthy Sree Narayana Gurukulam will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan at 6:30 pm tomorrow. Kadakampally Surendran MLA will preside, and the Jayanthi message will be delivered by Sree Narayana Dharma Sangham Trust President Swami Sachidananda, with Swami Sukshmananda leading the benedictory address. Other attendees include Shafi Parambil MP, K. Varadarajan, Gokulam Gopalan, and G. Mohandas. The welcome speech will be given by Trust General Secretary Swami Subhangadananda.
At Sivagiri, the day will begin with the flag hoisting by Swami Sachidananda at 7:00 am, followed by the lighting of the lamp for Japa Yajnam by Swami Paranananda at 7:30 am. Union Minister Suresh Gopi will inaugurate the Jayanthi Sammelanam at 9:30 am, with Swami Sachidananda presiding. Swami Subhangadananda, Adoor Prakash MP, V. Joy MLA, and others will also speak.
At 5:00 pm, the peace lamp will be lit at Sivagiri and other locations such as Sarada Mutt, Vaidika Mutt, Bodhananda Swami Samadhi Mandapam, and Mahasamadhi. A naam sankirtan procession will begin at 5:30 pm from Mahasamadhi, passing through Sivagiri Model School, SN College, and Narayana Gurukulam Junction, concluding with prayers at Mahasamadhi.
