Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has hinted at a potential significant shift in the electric vehicle (EV) industry and a possible prominent role for Tesla CEO Elon Musk in his administration. During a campaign stop in York, Pennsylvania, Trump discussed his policy ideas, including the potential removal of the $7,500 tax credit currently offered for EV purchases. Trump expressed skepticism about tax credits, stating, “Tax credits and tax incentives are not usually a good idea,” in an interview with Reuters.
Trump also mentioned the possibility of collaborating with Elon Musk if elected. When asked about offering Musk a position in his cabinet, Trump responded positively, praising Musk as “a very smart guy” and expressing his willingness to consider it. “If he would be willing to do it, I certainly would offer it. He’s a brilliant guy,” Trump said about the Tesla CEO.
Earlier, Elon Musk publicly expressed his full support for Trump, particularly after the rally violence, tweeting his endorsement and wishing Trump a quick recovery.
