Thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rain, lightning, and thunder are expected to persist across Kerala in the coming days. The Central Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Pathanamthitta and Idukki districts today and tomorrow, warning of potential intense weather conditions. Additionally, an orange alert has been declared in Kerala’s coastal districts due to the possibility of high waves and a black sea phenomenon, indicating a more severe risk in these areas.
Despite the weather warnings, authorities have not imposed any restrictions on fishing activities along the Kerala, Karnataka, and Lakshadweep coasts. However, fishermen are advised to remain cautious as conditions may change with the evolving weather situation.
A key development is the formation of a cyclone in the Andaman Sea, within the Bay of Bengal. This weather system is expected to intensify into a low-pressure area within 24 hours and could strengthen into a full cyclone by Wednesday. If it materializes, it will be the first cyclone of the monsoon season and will be named Cyclone Dana, a designation proposed by Qatar. This intensification could lead to heightened weather disturbances across the region, affecting both Kerala and nearby states.
