Wayanad: A tiger in Aramakuni, near Pulpally, has claimed its fifth victim, killing a goat near Thoopra anganvadi on Tuesday night. Despite intensified efforts by the Rapid Response Team (RRT), the tiger has managed to evade capture. It was last seen near a cage placed at Oottikkavala, close to the remains of another goat it had killed earlier that day.
Although the RRT cornered the tiger, it escaped, prompting officials to deploy thermal drones to monitor its movements. Additional police forces have been stationed in the area, and residents are urged to stay more vigilant. Authorities aim to safely capture the tiger using cages rather than tranquilliser darts.
For the past week, the tiger has been terrorizing the Aramakuni community by preying on livestock. On Tuesday morning, it killed a goat owned by Biju at Oottikkavala Payikkandam but fled when the family raised an alarm. The day before, it had also killed another goat belonging to Keshavan.
To address the escalating threat, the forest department has placed three cages at strategic locations in hopes of capturing the predator. The community remains on edge as officials work tirelessly to resolve the situation without harm to either the tiger or the residents.
