Heavy Rainfall Alert in Kerala: Seven Districts Under Yellow Alert

Kerala Braces for Thunderstorms and Strong Winds as Depression Weakens

The Central Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for heavy rainfall in seven districts of Kerala today, including Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod. The forecast indicates that these regions will experience significant rainfall, accompanied by strong winds and possible thunderstorms. As such, residents in the affected areas are advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions.

Despite the adverse weather conditions, there are currently no restrictions on fishing activities along the Kerala, Karnataka, and Lakshadweep coasts, providing some relief to the coastal communities. However, fishermen are urged to remain cautious due to the potential for rough seas during the heavy rain period.

An intense depression over the northwest Bay of Bengal, which made landfall near Puri in Odisha, is expected to weaken as it moves further inland. By midnight, the system is forecasted to dissipate into a low-pressure area, continuing its journey toward Chhattisgarh. The weakened system over the Kerala and Karnataka coasts is now expected to bring widespread light to moderate rainfall across Kerala for the next seven days.

The Central Meteorological Department also warns that isolated areas in the state could experience heavy rainfall between September 9 and 10. With the possibility of strong winds and thunderstorms, residents should stay vigilant and monitor weather updates closely.
