Thiruvananthapuram: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted continued heavy rainfall across several districts in Kerala, issuing a yellow alert for seven regions, including Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, and Malappuram. Rainfall is expected to range between 64.5 and 115.5 mm, with intense downpours likely to persist until October 18. Accompanied by thundershowers, this weather pattern could bring significant risks, particularly to areas prone to landslides, landslips, and waterlogging.
Authorities have urged residents living in vulnerable areas to exercise caution and move to safer locations if necessary. The heavy rain could lead to poor visibility, disruptions in traffic, and potential damage to crops also. Additionally, temporary power outages or road blockages due to waterlogging or fallen trees are also possible.
The IMD has advised fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea, as squally weather is anticipated to affect the Kerala-Karnataka-Lakshadweep coastal areas. Wind speeds could reach 35-45 km/h, with gusts up to 55 km/h until October 14.
Yellow alert details:
Oct 14: Idukki, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur
