Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala continues to experience relentless downpours as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts heavy rainfall for Friday. The downpour is a result of a low-pressure system located near the Gulf of Mannar, which is gradually moving toward Lakshadweep. Weather experts anticipate that the system will intensify further upon reaching Lakshadweep later in the evening, contributing to more widespread rainfall.
The IMD has issued an orange alert for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, and Pathanamthitta districts, predicting rainfall between 115 mm and 205 mm within 24 hours. Additionally, a yellow alert has been declared for Alappuzha, Kottayam, and Idukki districts, urging residents to stay prepared. Heavy rain is expected to persist in the south-central parts of Kerala through Friday afternoon. People residing in flood-prone and landslide-prone hilly areas are advised to relocate as a precautionary measure.
Fishing activities along Kerala’s coastline remain banned, with coastal residents warned about the potential for high waves and rough sea conditions. While a brief reprieve from the rain is expected over the weekend, the northeast monsoon is likely to regain strength by Monday due to the formation of another low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal.
As Kerala faces this challenging weather pattern, authorities urge citizens to stay informed and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety during this period of heightened rainfall activity.
