Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has decided to submit the full Hema Committee report to the High Court without filing an appeal against the court’s order. The report, ready to be submitted in a sealed envelope by September 9, will include details of the cases following the report’s release and the actions taken thus far. The government’s legal team, in collaboration with the Attorney General, has finalized the unreleased sections, transcripts, and annexures containing details of the accused.
The High Court directed the submission of the full report in response to a public interest petition seeking an inquiry into the committee’s findings. The court, which will review the case on September 9, has also included the Women’s Commission as a party to the proceedings.
Initially, the government hesitated to present the report due to the sensitive nature of personal references involving prominent actors, leading to discussions about a possible appeal. The Information Commissioner had ordered the report’s release with personal references removed, but the government faced challenges with a paragraph that contained allegations of sexual abuse by high-ranking officials. Allegations suggest the government concealed additional pages to protect influential figures named in the report. As a result, the government has chosen to allow the court to make the final decision on the matter.
