Malappuram: Kerala has been recognized as the Best Maritime State in India, with Malappuram earning the title of the Top Fishing District in the country. The announcement came from the Union Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, and Dairying ahead of National Fisheries Day, celebrated annually on November 21.
In other categories, Telangana was named the Best Inland Fisheries State, acknowledging its progress in inland fisheries. Uttarakhand was honored as the Best North-Eastern Himalayan State for fisheries development, and Jammu and Kashmir received accolades as the Best Union Territory.
Several districts were also celebrated for their contributions to the fisheries sector. Kanker in Chhattisgarh secured the title of Best Inland Fisheries District, while Assam’s Darrang was named the Best North-Eastern Himalayan District. Among Union Territories, Kulgam in Jammu and Kashmir stood out as the top district.
The awards recognize outstanding efforts in fisheries development, sustainability, and innovation across states and districts. The ceremony will take place on November 21 in New Delhi, marking a celebration of India’s thriving fisheries sector and its critical role in economic and rural development.
