Kozhikode: In an exhilarating update for football fans, the Argentina national football team is set to visit Kerala next year, likely playing two matches in the state. The Kerala government has reportedly reached an agreement with the Argentine Football Association (AFA), with an official announcement anticipated soon by Kerala Sports Minister V. Abdurahiman.
While it remains uncertain if football legend Lionel Messi will participate, the decision will ultimately rest with the AFA. Kerala recently sent a delegation to Madrid for discussions with AFA officials, where they explored possibilities for hosting an exhibition match featuring the three-time World Cup champions (1978, 1986, and 2022). Minister Abdurahiman expressed optimism following the meetings, highlighting a potential visit by an AFA delegation to finalize arrangements.
Additionally, the AFA has shown interest in setting up football academies in Kerala, a move that could significantly enhance the state’s sports infrastructure and provide opportunities for budding athletes.
