Kerala on High Alert for Heavy Rainfall as Transition to Northeast Monsoon Begins

State Faces Thunderstorms and Intense Rain Amid Southwest-Northeast Monsoon Shift

Malappuram (Kerala): Kerala is bracing for more heavy rainfall, with weather experts forecasting continued downpours along with thunder and lightning throughout the coming week. Although various regions across the state are already facing intense rain, the official onset of the Northeast Monsoon is yet to be declared.

Experts highlight that Kerala is currently undergoing a transition phase from the Southwest Monsoon to the Northeast Monsoon. This shift in monsoon systems is contributing to the erratic weather patterns. Districts such as Kannur, Kozhikode, Malappuram, and Palakkad have already experienced significant rainfall. Notably, Kannur International Airport recorded an astonishing 92 mm of rain in just one hour, highlighting the severity of the weather.

While the rains bring much-needed relief from the prolonged dry spell, they also pose risks of flooding, waterlogging, and landslides in vulnerable areas. Local authorities are monitoring the situation closely and have issued advisories urging residents to take precautions, particularly in areas prone to heavy rain.

As the state continues to await the full arrival of the Northeast Monsoon, the public is advised to stay updated with official weather warnings and prepare for the possible extension of heavy rainfall in the days to come.

In the coming days, Kerala residents are urged to stay vigilant as the heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are expected to persist. With the possibility of landslides in hilly regions and waterlogging in low-lying areas, local authorities have been on alert to manage any emergencies. As the state transitions to the Northeast Monsoon, it’s crucial for people to follow weather advisories, ensure safety measures, and stay indoors during periods of intense rain and lightning. The state government is also preparing for potential disruptions, urging citizens to cooperate and prioritize safety during this unpredictable weather phase.
