Kerala is set to appoint a consultancy firm to explore and develop industrial opportunities related to the Vizhinjam port. Vizhinjam International Seaport Limited (VISL) will oversee this process on behalf of the state government. The consultancy’s primary goal is to assess how the Vizhinjam port can boost the state’s economic growth.
Leading national firms participated in a pre-bid meeting in anticipation of the consultancy appointment, with tenders open until August 29. The consultancy will span a year, divided into various phases. It will study global models of successful port-based economies, develop strategies to attract major businesses, identify potential export and import sectors, and evaluate which companies could operate at the port. Additionally, it will provide recommendations for infrastructure development, including land use, special economic zones, legislative improvements, and utilities like electricity and water. The consultancy will also review the special economic zone associated with the Outer Ring Road project and assess projects receiving central government funding.
