Kerala’s thriving food industry has reached new heights, with 9,044 food outlets launched between April 1, 2024, and March 16, 2025. These include fast-food centres, biryani-mandi restaurants, traditional eateries, cafés, and snack shops, attracting a total investment of Rs 587 crore and generating employment for 26,266 people.
The food sector leads the service industry, but other businesses are also flourishing. Tailoring, fashion design, and jewellery businesses rank second, with 6,045 new establishments contributing Rs 130.38 crore in investment and creating 8,970 jobs.
Growing health consciousness among Malayalis has spurred the rise of fitness centres, health clubs, martial arts training, and yoga studios. These sectors have launched 5,330 businesses, invested Rs 348.88 crore, and provided jobs for 11,556 individuals. Additionally, over 2,000 new ventures have emerged in the automobile, coaching centre, and event management-media sectors during this period.
