In a thrilling finish, they edged past Palakkad by just one point, which secured 1007 points and settled for second place. Kannur, the reigning champions from last year, claimed third place with 1003 points.
This victory marks a historic moment for Thrissur, ending their 25-year-long wait for the Golden Cup. The last time they were crowned champions was in 1999 during the Kollam Kalolsavam.
The competition was intensely close, particularly in the high school category, where Thrissur and Palakkad were tied with 42 points each. However, the decisive moment came in the higher secondary category, where Thrissur narrowly outperformed Palakkad, scoring 526 points against Palakkad’s 525, sealing their overall win.
In the school-wise rankings, Alathur BSG Gurukulam Higher Secondary School from Palakkad bagged the top spot with 171 points, followed by Carmel Higher Secondary School in Thiruvananthapuram and MK NMHS School in Idukki, which secured second and third places respectively.
The closing ceremony will feature the prize distribution by Minister VS Sivankutty, with Opposition Leader VD Satheesan inaugurating the event. Adding glamour to the celebration, actors Tovino Thomas and Asif Ali will participate as chief guests.
Thrissur’s momentous win at this year’s Kalolsavam has reignited their cultural legacy, inspiring students and art enthusiasts alike.
