Search operations to find missing individuals after the severe landslides in Wayanad district on July 30 will resume on Sunday at 8 am with Army assistance. The operations had been paused on Friday due to the area’s temporary management by the Special Protection Group (SPG) for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit. Survivors, victims’ relatives, and volunteers must register by 9 am on Sunday to participate.
Prime Minister Modi, who visited Wayanad on Saturday, conducted an aerial survey and toured the damaged Chooralmala region. He also visited a relief camp and met survivors, assuring that the Central government would provide full support for relief and rehabilitation. The landslides have claimed 229 lives, with over 130 still missing. Search efforts, which include incorporating relatives and local representatives, are organized into six zones. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan described involving relatives as a “last-ditch effort” to locate the missing.
