Public employees are facing delays in salaries and pensions, and Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has announced a halt to ministers’ salaries due to an empty state treasury. With the debt burden nearing ₹90,000 crore, many promised subsidies are being reconsidered, reflecting the financial toll of Congress’ populist strategies.
Karnataka’s Economic Warnings
Karnataka, under Congress governance, is also beginning to feel the strain. According to reports, some ministers are pushing to scale back the five guarantees to ensure funds are available for developmental projects. The free bus travel scheme for women, a key electoral promise, has already led to ₹295 crore in losses for the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) in just three months. This has prompted discussions of increasing bus fares by 20%.
Misleading Farmers and Youth Promises?
Congress has pledged legal guarantees on Minimum Support Price (MSP), despite its failure to address the issue during its ten-year rule. The party is also promising 200,000 permanent jobs for the youth, yet past corruption scandals under the Hooda government leave voters wary of such assurances.
BJP’s Trust Factor

With a clear roadmap and past successes, BJP’s promises appear more reliable compared to Congress’ financially questionable guarantees.
