The proposed talks between PV Anwar and Congress leaders regarding his possible entry into the United Democratic Front (UDF) have been postponed. The discussions, initially scheduled for tomorrow, were delayed in light of the three-day national mourning declared after the passing of the Pope.
Meanwhile, strong signals have emerged from Congress indicating that PV Anwar cannot enter the UDF through his current association with the Trinamool Congress (TMC). The party leadership has conveyed a clear stance that they will not accept the TMC as part of the UDF. However, they are open to welcoming Anwar either as an independent or under a newly formed political outfit.
Congress leaders intend to explain the political complications that prevent TMC’s inclusion in the UDF to PV Anwar directly. They also plan to seek his full support in Nilambur, hinting at a possible alignment if he is willing to shift his political route. The Congress is prepared to initiate talks with Anwar later this week, should he express interest.
TMC leaders, on the other hand, insist that Anwar should be allowed into the UDF while remaining in TMC. Malappuram district TMC chief coordinator K.T. Abdurahman reaffirmed this stance. A crucial meeting in Thiruvananthapuram involving Congress leaders, TMC coordinators, and PV Anwar is expected to be pivotal in deciding the next course of action regarding his political future and the possible inclusion of TMC in the UDF alliance.
