P.V. Sindhu Exits Paris Olympics; Loses to China’s He Bing Jiao

P.V. Sindhu, India’s top medal hopeful for the Paris Olympics, was knocked out of the tournament on Thursday. She lost to China’s He Bing Jiao in straight sets during the pre-quarters. Sindhu, who won a silver medal in Rio and a bronze in Tokyo, faced a tough challenge as He Bing Jiao avenged a previous loss to Sindhu, where the Indian player had secured bronze in Tokyo.

In men’s doubles, the Indian team of Satwik and Chirag were defeated by Malaysia’s Aaron Chia and Saw Wooi Yik, ending India’s hopes for a gold medal in this event. The match saw the Indian pair win the first game but ultimately lose with scores of 13-21, 21-14, 21-16.

In the men’s singles, Lakshya Sen emerged victorious over HS Prannoy, advancing to the next stage.
