US President Joe Biden extended heartfelt condolences on Thursday in response to the devastating landslides in Kerala’s Wayanad district. The landslides, which struck on Tuesday, have resulted in at least 177 deaths and over 200 injuries, with the death toll expected to rise as recovery operations continue.
In a statement, President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden expressed their sympathy: “Jill and I extend our deepest condolences to all those affected by the deadly landslides in the state of Kerala in India. Our prayers are with the victims of this tragic event, and we mourn with the families who have lost loved ones.”
President Biden also commended the bravery of Indian service members and first responders involved in the challenging recovery efforts. “We will continue to hold the people of India in our thoughts during this difficult time,” he added.
