Representing Bengal in their pre-quarterfinal clash against Haryana in Vadodara, Shami showcased his skills by taking three wickets for 61 runs, restricting Haryana to 298/9 in their 50 overs.
While Haryana’s Nishant Sindhu and Parth Vats contributed crucial knocks of 64 and 62 respectively, Bengal’s bowling unit, led by Shami and Mukesh Kumar (two wickets), kept the opposition in check. Shami’s spell once again underlined his readiness for high-pressure matches as India gears up for a busy international schedule.
The 34-year-old last donned the Indian jersey in an ODI against Australia in November 2023 before an injury sidelined him. His absence was felt during India’s 3-1 loss in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, where Australia capitalized on a depleted Indian bowling attack.
With India set to host England for five T20Is and three ODIs starting January 22, Shami is expected to make a comeback to bolster the squad.
