Virat Kohli added another illustrious record to his already stellar IPL legacy by becoming the first cricketer in the tournament’s history to hit 1000 boundaries. The landmark was achieved during the 24th match of IPL 2025 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, where Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) faced Delhi Capitals. Kohli reached the milestone in the fourth over, smashing a massive six off Axar Patel, bringing his tally to 721 fours and 279 sixes across 18 IPL seasons. This feat cements Kohli’s position as the all-time leader in IPL boundaries and third in sixes, behind Chris Gayle and Rohit Sharma.
However, despite Kohli’s historic moment and a solid foundation laid by him and Phil Salt, RCB couldn’t hold their ground. After setting a target of 164, their momentum dipped due to disciplined bowling from Delhi’s spinners Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav. Their efforts kept RCB to 163/7 on a slow pitch. What looked like a defendable total quickly became a tough defense as Delhi Capitals, led by KL Rahul’s unbeaten 93 off 53 balls, mounted a remarkable chase. Rahul, returning to his hometown, displayed exceptional temperament and class.
Partnering with Tristan Stubbs, who played a fiery 38* off 23, Rahul helped DC recover from a shaky 58/4 to successfully chase down the target. Their partnership of 111 runs for the fifth wicket was not only match-winning but also etched into the franchise’s record books as the highest for that position. Rahul’s innings featured seven boundaries and six sixes, ending the game in just 17.5 overs. While Kohli may have set a personal milestone, Rahul’s heroics ensured Delhi walked away with the points.
