In his announcement, Biden expressed that stepping down was in the best interest of both his party and the country. This decision comes just four months before the US presidential elections. Currently in isolation due to Covid, Biden had faced increasing speculation about his potential withdrawal following the debate.
Biden suggested that Vice President Kamala Harris be nominated as the Democratic Party’s presidential candidate. Meanwhile, Republican candidate Donald Trump commented on Sunday that he believes Kamala Harris would be an easier opponent to defeat in the upcoming November election compared to Joe Biden.
