Zelenskyy Open to Minerals Deal with US Amid Tensions with Trump

Ukrainian President Signals Readiness for Agreement Despite Oval Office Clash

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has expressed readiness to sign a minerals deal with the United States, provided both parties are prepared. This statement comes days after a heated exchange with US President Donald Trump in the Oval Office, where Trump criticized Zelenskyy for not being “thankful” enough for US support in Ukraine’s conflict with Russia.

The proposed deal aims to offer financial benefits to the US in exchange for assistance in brokering a truce, though Trump has consistently refused to commit US military forces as backup. Zelenskyy emphasized Ukraine’s constructive approach, stating, “If we agreed to sign the minerals deal, we’re ready to sign it.”

During the Oval Office meeting, Trump warned Zelenskyy, “You’re either going to make a deal or we’re out,” adding that without US support, Ukraine’s situation could worsen. The meeting ended abruptly, with the resources deal left unsigned.

Despite the tensions, Ukraine’s European allies have reaffirmed their commitment to increasing security spending and forming a coalition to support a potential truce. French President Emmanuel Macron also revealed that France and Britain are considering proposing a partial one-month ceasefire with Russia.

Zelenskyy’s remarks highlight Ukraine’s determination to secure international support while navigating complex diplomatic challenges. The minerals deal could play a crucial role in Ukraine’s post-war recovery, but its success depends on resolving the ongoing tensions between Kyiv and Washington.
