Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Sasan Gir, a renowned wildlife sanctuary in Gujarat, on World Wildlife Day, March 3. This year’s theme, “Wildlife Conservation Finance: Investing in People and Planet,” highlights the need for sustainable funding and community participation in conservation efforts.
During his visit, PM Modi will inaugurate a state-of-the-art veterinary hospital designed to provide advanced medical care for the endangered Asiatic lions. He will also chair a meeting of the National Board for Wildlife (NBWL) at Singh Sadan to discuss critical wildlife conservation issues. Additionally, the Prime Minister will interact with women forest staff, promoting gender inclusivity in conservation initiatives.
Gujarat, home to the world’s last population of Asiatic lions, has made significant progress in protecting these majestic creatures and preserving regional biodiversity. The lions now roam across 30,000 square kilometers, spanning 53 talukas in nine districts. To further strengthen conservation, the state has established a National Referral Centre for Wildlife in Junagadh and a high-tech wildlife monitoring center in Sasan.
PM Modi’s visit underscores the government’s commitment to wildlife conservation and sustainable development, ensuring the protection of endangered species and their habitats for future generations. The Prime Minister’s visit also aims to raise awareness about the importance of wildlife conservation and the role of local communities in safeguarding biodiversity. By investing in advanced facilities and empowering forest staff, the initiative seeks to create a harmonious balance between ecological preservation and sustainable development, setting a global example for wildlife protection.
