In a significant push toward enhancing telecom security and connectivity across India, Union Minister of Communications Jyotiraditya Scindia unveiled several citizen-centric initiatives, including the Sanchar Saathi Mobile App, the National Broadband Mission (NBM) 2.0, and the Intra Circle Roaming (ICR) facility for DBN-funded 4G mobile sites.
The Sanchar Saathi Mobile App, available on both Android and iOS, is designed to empower users with robust telecom security tools. It features functions like reporting suspected fraudulent calls or SMS (Chakshu), managing mobile connections, blocking lost or stolen mobile devices, and verifying handset authenticity. The app aims to combat telecom fraud and promote trust in digital communications. “This initiative ensures security and accessibility for all,” stated Scindia during the launch.
Additionally, the Minister launched NBM 2.0, which builds on the achievements of NBM 1.0 that installed nearly 8 lakh towers. NBM 2.0 focuses on bridging the digital divide, aiming to connect 1.7 lakh remaining villages and ensure broadband access for 60% of rural households. It also sets an ambitious goal of achieving a minimum broadband download speed of 100 Mbps in rural areas.
The event also marked the introduction of Intra Circle Roaming (ICR) at DBN-funded sites, enabling TSPs like BSNL, Airtel, and Reliance to share infrastructure. This collaboration enhances connectivity and offers customers greater flexibility and choice. With these initiatives, the government reinforces its commitment to a secure, connected, and digitally empowered India.
