Former CPI MLA R. Ramachandran Passes Away

Renowned Communist Party of India (CPI) leader and former Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA), R. Ramachandran, breathed his last on Tuesday while undergoing treatment for liver-related ailments at a private hospital in Kochi. His demise is a significant loss to the political landscape, marking the end of a chapter in the CPI’s leadership.

Ramachandran, who represented Karunagappally in the 2016 Assembly elections, had a long and dedicated political career. Beginning his journey through the student wing, he steadily rose through the ranks, serving as the CPI Karunagappally Taluk Committee Secretary and later as Chavara Mandalam Secretary. In 2012, he assumed the role of CPI district secretary in Kollam, showcasing his commitment to the party’s principles.

Beyond local politics, Ramachandran contributed to the larger political landscape by serving as the LDF convener and, between 2006-11, as the chairman of the Kerala Small Industries Development Corporation Limited (Kerala SIDCO). His multifaceted contributions and leadership roles have left a lasting impact on the political scene.

Ramachandran is survived by his wife Priyadarshini, a retired accountant at Thiruvthamkoor Devaswom Board, and his children Deepa Chandran and In-law Anil Kumar. The funeral is scheduled to take place at his residence on Wednesday, marking the end of an era in Kerala politics.
