Heatwave Grips Kerala: Orange Alert in Palakkad, Thrissur; Sunstroke Claims One Life in Alappuzha

Kerala is grappling with a severe heatwave, prompting the declaration of an orange alert in Palakkad and Thrissur by the Central Meteorological Centre. Thrissur has experienced temperatures five degrees above normal for the past five days, leading to the heatwave declaration. Residents are advised to exercise caution, especially in Thrissur. Palakkad, too, is under an orange alert due to high temperatures, with heightened vigilance urged until May 2. Across the state, people are advised to avoid direct sunlight exposure between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. Yesterday, Palakkad recorded its highest temperature rise at 41.3 degrees Celsius, five degrees above normal. Thrissur also experienced a high of 40 degrees Celsius, exceeding normal levels by 5.5 degrees. Alappuzha and Thrissur recorded their highest temperatures for April. The weather center forecasts continued high temperatures until the first week of May.

Tragically, one person succumbed to sunstroke in Alappuzha. Subhash, aged 44, died while working on wiring due to sunstroke. The incident occurred around 3 p.m. Subhash collapsed and passed away while being transported to Alappuzha Medical College Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Bibin, and their children, Benita and Anita.
