Netflix Unveils Extensive Viewing Data: The Night Agent and Wednesday Top the List

In a move towards greater data transparency, Netflix has released its first comprehensive viewership data report, revealing insights into the most popular movies and shows on the platform. The report covers 18,214 titles with over 50,000 hours of watch time from January to June. Topping the list is the Gabriel Basso-led The Night Agent with a staggering 812.1 million hours viewed, followed by Ginny & Georgia season 2 and the South Korean thriller Glory. Jenna Ortega’s Wednesday, a global phenomenon inspired by the Addams Family, secured the fourth spot with 507.7 million hours, while Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story rounded out the top five with 503 million hours viewed. It’s noteworthy that Netflix plans to release such reports biannually, enhancing transparency and providing creators and the industry with deeper insights into audience preferences.

It’s important to highlight that Netflix compiled this list based on total hours viewed rather than its previous formula for ‘views.’ The streaming giant aims to share detailed reports twice a year, with the next edition covering the most in-demand titles from July to December. The majority of the listed titles are Netflix originals, with the Indian entry Rana Naidu season 1 securing a spot among the top 400. Netflix’s commitment to transparency aligns with industry demands for more open sharing of streaming data, addressing historical concerns around the lack of disclosure regarding viewership numbers on streaming platforms. CEO Ted Sarandos emphasized that this move was always part of Netflix’s plan to build trust and transparency with creators and the industry.
