Boxer Vijender Singh Leaves Congress, Joins BJP

Boxer Vijender Singh has made a significant political move by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), dealing another blow to the Congress party just weeks ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. Vijender accepted the BJP membership at the party headquarters in Delhi. This decision comes amidst his active involvement in various social and political issues, including his support for women wrestlers protesting against Brij Bhushan Singh, the former chief of the Wrestling Federation of India, regarding a harassment complaint. Additionally, Vijender has been vocal in his support for the farmers’ struggle.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Vijender contested as a Congress candidate in the South Delhi constituency. However, for the upcoming elections, he expressed his desire to contest from the Bhiwani-Mahendragarh seat in Haryana. Despite this, the Congress party offered him the Mathura seat, leading to a dispute over the choice of constituency. Ultimately, Vijender decided to join the BJP following the disagreement over the seat allocation.

Vijender’s decision to join the BJP holds significance as he is considered a prominent leader of the Jat sect, which holds influence in many areas of Haryana. His entry into the BJP could potentially bolster the party’s prospects in the region, especially considering his popularity and influence among the Jat community.
