Prolonged Heavy Rainfall Expected in State; Yellow Alert Issued for 9 Districts

The Central Meteorological Department has issued a warning indicating the likelihood of continued heavy rainfall in the state. A yellow alert has been declared for nine districts, including Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod. The rains are expected to persist over the next several days as the monsoon strengthens over the Arabian Sea.

A cyclone originating in the Bay of Bengal is currently positioned over central Odisha-Chhattisgarh. The primary cause of the widespread rainfall in Kerala is the robust monsoon activity.

Given the situation, fishermen and residents along the coastal areas should exercise caution due to the potential for high waves and storm surges along the Kerala coastline. A warning has been issued for hilly coastal regions.

To ensure safety, a fishing ban has been implemented along the coasts of Kerala, Karnataka, and Lakshadweep due to the anticipated strong winds and rough seas.
