ChatGPT Introduces Voice Chat Feature for All Free Users on iOS and Android

Amidst recent upheavals at OpenAI, the company has continued to enhance its popular product, ChatGPT. OpenAI announced that the voice chat feature, previously available to ChatGPT Plus and Enterprise subscribers, is now accessible to all free users on the ChatGPT app for both iOS and Android.

Users can now engage in voice conversations by tapping the headphones icon in the app, initiating a spoken interaction with ChatGPT. The feature includes an introduction screen, explaining that all voice chats will be saved as transcriptions in chat history, while audio clips of the conversations are not stored. The app offers language auto-detection and allows users to select a preferred language for more accurate voice detection.

Key steps for using the voice chat feature include selecting a preferred voice from the available options, granting microphone permission, and engaging in spoken conversations with ChatGPT. However, real-time updates are not available for free users, and access to available data is restricted until January 2022.

The voice chat feature was initially introduced to ChatGPT Plus and Enterprise members in September, with collaboration with professional voice actors to enhance the user experience. This feature enables ChatGPT to comprehend spoken queries, convert them into text, and respond in audio format using OpenAI’s text-to-speech (TTS) technology.

Additionally, ChatGPT Plus and Enterprise customers enjoy the privilege of web browsing and accessing real-time data beyond the information cutoff date, with plans for expanding this functionality to all users in the near future.
