Relentless rains have wreaked havoc in Kerala for the second consecutive day, leading to significant property damage and the loss of three lives. In Palakkad Kottekkad, a mother and her son tragically died when their house wall collapsed. The victims, Sulochana (53) and her son Ranjith (32), were sleeping when the incident occurred. Sulochana was bedridden, making the incident even more tragic.
In Kannur, Kunjamina (51) fell into a water-filled ditch and lost her life. She accidentally stepped into a concealed well while navigating the waterlogged area.
Region-wise Impact
Ernakulam: The Aluva Shiva temple was submerged due to the rising water levels in the Periyar River.
Kottayam: Trees fell on two cars on the Bund road and near the Kummanam Elankavu temple.
Idukki: Traffic was disrupted on the Chappath-Kattapana road due to an old stone wall collapse. A house partially collapsed in the Manathodu region after a tree fell on it.
Thrissur: A large mango tree fell on a car in Ollur.
Kollam: A tree branch fell on a bus carrying school students, but the children escaped unharmed. Another tree was uprooted on the Mangad government HSS premises.
Alappuzha: Thirty-one houses partially collapsed due to heavy rain, and a couple was injured when a tree fell near the Mattancherry bridge. The injured, Unais (30) and his wife Alina (28), are currently in the ICU, with Unais in critical condition.
Palakkad: The body of a young man who went missing in Palakkayam Vattapara Cherupuzha was recovered.
Malappuram: An auto driver was injured after a tree fell on his vehicle in Thamarakuzhi. The injured, Abdul Hameed from Malappuram Kunnummal, is receiving medical treatment.
Kozhikode: Two families were displaced due to a landslide in Palazhi, Pantheerankavu village. In Farook, a housewife was trapped inside her home after the front portion collapsed. Locals managed to rescue her.
Pathanamthitta: About ten electric posts were broken, and twenty houses were damaged due to tree falls in Pandalam.
The heavy rains have also blocked access to Tenkasi Kutralam Falls and Aryankavu Palaruvi Falls. The state’s emergency services are working tirelessly to manage the aftermath and assist affected residents.
