The 70th National Film Awards brought immense pride to the Kerala film industry as Malayalam cinema was prominently recognized. Anand Ekarshi’s directorial “Attam” won the National Award for Best Film, along with accolades for Best Screenplay and Best Editing, awarded to Mahesh Bhuvanend. Nithya Menen, celebrated for her versatility, received the Best Actress award for her role in the Tamil film “Thiruchitrambalam.”
The Best Malayalam Film award was given to “Saudi Vellakka,” directed by Tharun Moorthy, known for his previous work “Operation Java.” The film, praised for its narrative depth, features performances by Zarin Shihab, Vinay Fort, Kalabhavan Shajohn, and Nandhan Unn, among others. With cinematography by Anurudh Aneesh and sound design by Renganath Ravee, the film’s appeal was further enhanced by Basil CJ’s background music and lyrics.
Adding to the film’s success, Bombay Jayashree was awarded Best Playback Singer for her song in “Saudi Vellakka,” while Sreepathyan received recognition as Best Child Actor for his role in “Malikappuram.”
